September 11 changed all our lives. We pulled together and responded with direct and forceful resolve. We were attacked! There are extremist groups that hate us and what we stand for. We must be strong and united in such adversity. I was concerned about going into Iraq. Saddam Hussein was celebrating the fact that we were attacked and was breaking security resolutions previously agreed upon. He would not allow U.N. inspectors in and was openly endorsing terrorism! I do not believe we should force our type of democracy on other nations but lead by example. I support General Petraeus and his recommendations as to when it is safe to pull back in Iraq. On the other hand, the Afghanistans still need the strength of our support. I feel we will always be challenged by the threat of terrorism. |

Health care
I feel health Insurance needs reform. I do not believe in government run universal health care. I believe we should have a choice in private and or government sponsored plans. I feel companies that offer good health care coverage, should receive tax benefits. Individuals should be able to qualify and purchase insurance at the same cost, whether they apply as an individual or under a group plan. Insurance companies should not decline individuals based on pre-existing conditions. Insurance benefits should be treated equally for mental and physical illnesses. We need to keep premiums affordable so there is no room for excessive executive pay.
The first thing we need to do is secure the border. I would like to see the National Guard, along with our latest surveillance technology guarding the border. We must enforce the laws we already have in place. Employers can use electronic identification verification now. Employers should pay employees a fair wage for the requirements of the job they are to perform, regardless of whom they are, or where they are from.
We all have to make sacrifices to change our spending habits. We have to live within our means. This includes Government and other Major companies and institutions. We should explore all options to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, not only for economic reasons but also for national security. I would recommend waiving penalties on profit sharing and retirement funds so individuals could reduce debt and avoid foreclosure. I think banks should help reduce the burden on struggling families and individuals by reducing some of the excessive interest they are charging on loans and credit lines. We all have to pitch in and work through this crisis together. The burden of financial worries is taking its toll on the well being of families and individuals, we must address this issue.
